fallingFalling
by M. L. Rhodes

The prologue starts 30 years ago in Britain: a wizard, cornered by an evil sorcerer named Rogan, sends his wife and infant son into hiding while he sacrifices his life to protect the location of a powerful amulet.  The next scene introduces three modern-day British wizards: handsome protagonist Christian and his house-mates. They discuss recent supernatural murders in the United States that raise the possibility that Rogan might be over there, closing in on the amulet at long last.

Christian decides he'd better go investigate.  As the director of the Bureau of Dark Magic Affairs, he must police all wizards in a world of unsuspecting Ordinaries – and this can be dangerous since wizards can typically shoot energy bolts out of their hands and teleport!

Cut to the scene of the murders: Shelton, Illinois. Homicide detective Alec is not pleased to get a new partner via a British foreign-exchange program.  But then he meets Christian.  Immediate mutual attraction ignites!

But each man has personal problems standing in his way.  Christian has never "come out" as a gay man.  Alec is still mourning the shooting death of his lover.  Also, Alec has some weird disorder related to travel that makes it impossible for him to relocate for a long-distance romance.

Each man suppresses his feelings, and they proceed with the case.  First, they interview the families of the murder victims.  Some describe floating balls of light and other paranormal phenomena. Many have some connection with Britain.

Christian gets an additional shock when Alec lays his hands on a distraught witness and does a "healing."  Is Alec a wizard?  Why does he, like all Ordinaries, have no magical aura? When questioned about the healing, Alec dismisses it as a useful quirk he learned from his grandmother.

But things are just starting to heat up! Another murder happens.  Christian realizes the perpetrator is a guiller, a vicious supernatural creature that specializes in extracting people's thoughts.  Obviously Rogan is using it while following up on anyone who can lead him to the powerful amulet! In the meantime, Christian and Alec share erotic dreams through a telepathic link when they sleep at night. Their growing lust for each other is getting hard to deny.

What are our heroes going to do? Well, rest assured here at ObsidianBookshelf.com that their adventure will include lots and lots and lots of hot sex!  Falling is a fun paranormal romance between two likable heroes.
