Great Moments in Dialogue - (Check the list below, alphabetical by book's title, for memorable lines!)

Here at Obsidianbookshelf.com, I probably love dialogue more than anything except (1) a great sex scene, and (2) a great fight scene. Some of the lines that follow are not spoken, but are still priceless. I will update this list frequently as I read!

On page 175 of Captain's Surrender, Josh says to Peter:  "I'm not an easy man to impress, Mr. Kenyon.  What makes you think that a night of unbridled sexual perversion is going to change my mind?"

On page 11 of The Filly, Ethan forms a first, unspoken impression of Travis : "The cowboy seemed awfully polite and well-mannered.  He wasn't dirty, smelly, rough, rude, or rowdy."

On page 20 of The Huntsmen: Bareback, police lieutenant Joe's reaction when Brian first propositions him: "Go choke your chicken, kid, and dream of somebody prettier than me."

On page 21 of The Huntsmen: Bareback, Joe's attempt to negotiate terms as Brian continues to pester him for sex: "I like my plumbing the way it is, kid, and my anal sphincter is strictly a one-way valve."

On page 42 of Interstitial, Jati and North try to repel a hostile takeover of their ship.  Jati: "On it.  North, cover our six."  North:  "Our what?  You've been playing those war sim games again.  You can say 'backside'."  Jati:  "I'd say 'arse' but then you'd think I was talking about you. Move out."

On page 61 of Interstitial, Jati is ordered to set out bait to lure the aliens to a trap.  "'Waste chocolate on those things?' She practically felt her ovaries contract in rage."

On page 23 of Lieutenant Samuel Blackwood (deceased), Daniel responds to his father's warning of his captain's alleged history of sexual misconduct:  "I promise to fight for my honour should he try to grope my freckly arse."

On page 52 of Lieutenant Samuel Blackwood (deceased), the captain asks the rhetorical question, is Daniel happy to hear that he turned down someone's sexual advances?  Daniel has this flustered response:  "Yes – I mean, no – I mean, it's not my place to – could we return to the matter at hand, Sir?"

On page 60 of Orphan's Quest, Rokey confesses his sexual preference to Flaskamper: "In fact, well … as it happens … that is to say I'm pretty sure, as far as I know, that I am – that I also prefer, you know, men."

On page 20, Psycop 3 Body and Soul, Jacob's dad explains to their guest from Chicago their position on football:  "We don't watch the Bears in this house unless they're getting their asses handed to them by the Packers."

On page 222, Whistling in the Dark, a smarmy rival doubts that Jack, who served with the Signal Corps, really saw much action on the battlefields of France during WWI. Jack answers him with a devastating put-down in the following exchange: David: "So you wielded wireless rather than bayonet?" Jack:  "You're right. I left most of the shooting to the other fellows.  They were good at keeping me alive when I had to be out in the open, setting up aerials or patching phone lines.  I don't know how they did it, because God knows I was a hell of a target."

A labor of love is done through pleasure in the work itself, without expectation of reward.tinygoldstar02
