detailsofthehuntDetails of the Hunt by Laura Baumbach

Talos is a bounty-hunter from the distant future.  He's also an alien, and members of his species are known for their strength, code of honor, and their secret technology that enables them to time-travel. They also possess unusual sex-organs that resemble tentacles, and deliver their lovers to unheard-of levels of pleasure.

He is hired by a sleazy rich man Barlow to time-travel to 18th century Earth to capture Aidan Maymon, a pirate who can lead Barlow to a hidden treasure. Barlow's lust for treasure almost eclipses his lust for Maymon.

Talos saves young Maymon from his mutinous crew, and transports the pirate to a futuristic space station. Maymon adapts with droll self-confidence, believing it all a dream. His roguish charm endears him to Talos whose own unique physiological urges cause him to imprint upon Maymon as his intended mate.

Maymon doesn't mind: homosexuality was a capital crime in his time, but he has been known to have a gay fling now and again in his search for pleasure. Much sex ensues! But what happens when Talos's client demands his legally-owned property:  Maymon?

Details of the Hunt is fun, if derivative.  Talos may remind you of a Cardassian from Star Trek Deep Space 9; he certainly looks like one on the cover!  Both the space scenes and the futuristic technology also seem borrowed from this long-running television show.

Maymon is clearly inspired by the Captain Jack Sparrow character from the Pirates of the Caribbean movies from his lively personality to the glass beads and braids in his long dark hair. That said, Maymon is a fun character, and his dialogue is done well.  Talos is too surly for my tastes, but I here at ObsidianBookshelf.com might read another adventure involving Maymon.
