Cat Toy by Illian Obsidian (Note: Illian Obsidian has no connection with ObsidianBookshelf.com.)
This novella opens as a young pilot runs through the woods. He has just crashed his shuttle on an unknown planet. The space exploration program hadn't prepared him for this! Injured and frightened, he has lost all memory of his past.
Little does he know that fate has brought him to the planet of the cat-people: large, powerful humanoids covered in fur. In fact, a cat-man chases him only to get scared off by an even bigger one who claims the pilot as his own. Overcome by his injuries, the pilot passes out.
His captor happens to be Tryl, the alpha-male leader of the prides that loosely populate this planet. Tryl is smitten with the pilot's good looks: pale skin, blond hair, slender build. Everyone has been telling Tryl that he needs his very own slave. Until now, he's been holding out for someone special. He decides to name his new pet Yai.
Tryl whisks Yai back to his home. The cat-people have cities, vehicles, and chauffeurs, but their living quarters resemble caves with little furniture other than low beds covered with furs and underground streams in which to wash.
After Tryl indulges in staring at the lusciously described body of his unconscious new slave, he sends for the healer. He wants Yai patched up and fully recovered, ready to start his new life. The healer, who defers to Tryl with nervous reverence, explains that it might be hard to communicate with Yai since the vocal cords of cat-people and humans are dissimilar. Obviously, humans have crash-landed here before. Tryl is slightly perturbed, but he has plans for Yai that don't involve extended conversations. Impatient for Yai to recover, he has frenzied sex with two cat-men slaves.
Yai awakens, and still doesn't remember his past. He's anxious to find himself with Tryl, the cat-man. But soon Tryl is smiling at him and trying to teach him his new name. Yai realizes that he's always enjoyed praise. Also, he likes Tryl's purring. Much sex ensues. Will Yai adjust to his new life? Will Tryl's deprived lieutenant Mank get his own human pet? What will happen when Yai's former coworkers from the space exploration program try to rescue him?
Cat Toy is fun, and succeeds as simple erotica. The characters aren't very complex, and the setting is sketched in just enough for that science-fiction feel, but not so much that it slows the pacing. The plot mostly emphasizes Tryl and Yai getting together, but it does cover some ground in only 92 pages, working in a trade conference, an attempted rescue, and a new pairing between Mank and Karl. The sex scenes are numerous and hot! Here at Obsidianbookshelf.com, I definitely plan to seek out more fiction by this author.
